Nomichi, a ceramic artist from Hokkaido, draws much of their inspiration from various works across different eras and cultures, not just pottery. They visit museums to gather ideas for their pieces. Sometimes, the idea for a new piece even sparks during a meal, prompting them to think, "I should try making a vessel to serve this!"
The resulting pieces have a charming, nostalgic feel thanks to their delightful hand-painted designs. The plump texture of the pottery further enhances this warmth.
About the Craft
These pieces are made using a kohiki technique, where a white slip is layered over red clay. For plates, Nomichi first creates a clay prototype, then makes a plaster mold. They then form the piece by pressing a slab of clay into the mold. After that, white slip is applied with a brush, and the piece is bisque-fired. Finally, the designs are hand-painted with a brush, glaze is applied, and the piece undergoes its final firing.

Important Considerations
Since these are handmade items, each piece will vary slightly in shape. The color outcome also differs from piece to piece; some may have lighter areas or a rubbed-looking finish. We hope you'll enjoy these unique characteristics and cherish your piece. Please also note that sizes are approximate.
It's also worth noting that handmade pieces by artists may have minor indentations, distortions, or crazing from the manufacturing process. These are not considered damage.
It is recommended to soak in water before use. We do not recommend using a microwave or dishwasher.
